In 2001 Newtonhill Primary School netball team was about to be disbanded when their coach moved abroad. Two mums, who had never played netball, decided to try to help. They managed to find a player, Cathy Tringham, with a talent for nurturing and encouraging young talent and from there a new club was born. Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength and now has over 70 members.
Our current ladies team coach Caroline Walker joined us in 2007 and together with assistant coaches Mhairi Shanks and Paige Stalker has successfully led the club to several ADNA league wins and Scottish cup U 15 and U17 semi-finals. During the last 7 years, almost 60 girls have been chosen for the Aberdeen District squad and in 2010, Lois Bannerman was selected for the Scotland U17 squad.
Caroline has been involved in netball for over 30 years and in 2010 was awarded ADNA’s Coach of the Year title. In 2013, Mhairi received Sportscotland's Grampian Young Volunteer of the Year award and in 2014, the club was shortlisted for Aberdeenshire Sports Council's Team of the Year title.
The club tries to recruit coaches from within and players are encouraged to help coach the younger teams. Attendance at training courses for both coaching and umpiring is also encouraged. Each year, the club also runs a summer camp for P7 age players.
At Newtonhill, our primary aim is to create a supportive, fun and safe environment for all players to participate in netball.
